Journalism has become his passion at young age. While attending high school, John was the Student Reporter for the Valley Stream Herald and Malverne/West Hempstead Herald on Long Island. As time passed, he became a reporter for Patch covering various communities on Long Island, including Garden City, Malverne and East Meadow.

Heading into Manhattan, he decided to focus on New York-centric sites and newspapers. He was a reporter for Our Town and West Side Spirit, until became the Assistant Editor at Resident Magazine covering restaurants and travel. Looking to enter lifestyle reporting, John was the Charity Social Editor at Joonbug where he interviewed notable philanthropist and non-profit CEOs.

John Friia is a writer, focusing on food, drinks, lifestyle and local news throughout New York and Long Island. He has a BA in Journalism and Political Science from CUNY Baruch College.

Currently, he is  attending the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism to attain his masters in broadcast journalism and freelances for CBS New York, The Daily Meal and Newsday. From food to lifestyle and local news, he is bringing all the excitement of New York to his reader’s fingertips.
